Elena Shanley is currently in process of writing a book is intended to help parents who want to cultivate a more sex-positive approach and break the cycle of shame, avoidance and, ignorance in talking to their kids about sex.
Many of us parents have not quite worked through our own struggles that come from the cycle, but we know we do not want to perpetuate it.
Talking to our kids about sex can feel awkward and dooming. You know you need to, but you still find yourself with these thoughts…
What do I say?
When do I say it?
How do I say it?
I don’t want to be ignorant
What if I use the wrong words?
What if I give too much info?
I wouldn’t even classify my relationship with sex as healthy.
I don’t understand all the orientation and gender issues today.
Will it make my kids have sex to early or irresponsibly?
